Post-Operative Pain Pumps
Use:
Placed post-surgically for in-home control of post-operative acute pain. This device eliminates the need for opioids and the adverse side effects (respiratory depression, urinary retention, constipation, nausea, vomiting, grogginess, restricted ambulation, sedation, confusion, expensive hospital readmissions and tolerance/abuse/addiction) associated with opioids.
Types:
Elastomeric Pumps
The system is a small pump with an adjustable flow controller that continually delivers local anesthetic medication to relieve pain after surgery at home in place of opioids. The device continuously delivers the medication to block the post-operative pain from the procedure.
Enhanced indications:
- FDA approved superior pain relief to narcotics
- FDA approved significantly less need for narcotic
- Allows for earlier ambulation and therapy
- Reduces discharge times
- Allows complex surgeries to be moved to a ambulatory facility
Electronic Pumps
The electronic pump provides continuous or intermittent delivery of non-opioid medication based on a programmed prescription. The pump can be used on pediatric or adult patients with an option of bolus local anesthetic that manages breakthrough pain. These devices are proven to reduce patient opioid use, shorten hospital stays, and reduce pain.
